| Customer Reviews: Nowhere near as bad as everyone makes out! May 9, 2010 Mr. Jacob M. P. Graham 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
As soon as I got a PS3, I started looking at this game because I've always been a big fan of sonic, especially the 3D Sonic Adventure games. I have to say, after reading so many horrifying reviews about how slow the characters are, how many glitches are in the game, and how Sonic is the only half-decent character to play as, I was afraid of buying it; however, after saying to myself 'how bad could it be?', I decided to give it a go.
I am so glad I bought it! If you liked Sonic Adventure 1&2 and Shadow the Hedgehog, you should definitely give it a go. You can ignore all the reviews that say it's terrible, because out of all the problems listed, I noticed very few.
Let me start with the good. The graphics are amazing, although they are the least important thing. The gameplay of each and every character is unique and well thought-out, and if you enjoyed the 6 character aspect of the Adventure games, you'll love this because it has 9 playable characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega, Silver, Blaze and Amy.
There is a great variety of beautiful environments, from vast forests to towering ruins to volcanoes. Boss levels are also very fun and reminiscent of Adventure 1&2.
Upgrades, both new and old to the series, can be bought in the 'hub world', with money earned from completing acts.
The two-player gameplay is brilliant, and is just what I've been waiting for in Sonic. You each choose a hedgehog and play cooperatively through the story levels.
The story is exciting and expansive, and I can't understand why fans seem to hate it.
There are a few bad points: There is a point in the game that features snowboarding, and it is nearly impossible to control.
There are incredibly fast parts at the end of some of Sonic's levels which are hard to get used to.
This game is not nearly as bad as so many people make out - it's one of my favourite Sonics to date, and much better than the later games like Sonic Unleashed. If you liked Adventure try it out.
Not bad March 6, 2009 Jonathan De Gilbert (uk) A lot of patience is required of this game as almost within each level you find it shows you a bit of the story then loads and then shows more story before loading again. I was getting a little tired of all the loading it requires. overall game play 3 stars due to the fact there are no checkpoints through the levels therefore if you get to end of level and you die you would have to start from beginning of level again
Unbelievably rubbish October 30, 2008 Chris (PSN Chrisw373, XBL KomikBookHero) (Yorkshire, England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It really is astounding how bad this game is. I did like the Sonic Adventure games on Dreamcast but not more recent games. Anyway I just saw this having not heard anything about it. I actually thought maybe with them just calling it Sonic The Hedgehog it might have kind of gone back to what Sonic games used to be about but be a cool next gen version. Not a bit of it. All the things I used to like about Sonic games was just not here at all. I used to really like the speed and playability of the older games but this really does feel awful to play. This is most definitely not what I bought a PS3 for. Much prefer playing the original Sonic on my phone. At a fiver to download thats much better than this total mess. PLEASE AVOID!
A REAL SHAME..... April 16, 2008 Mrs. W. Scott 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After playing the playstation version years ago I couldn't wait to get this. After playing it, SEGA showed just what they are capable of.. making a complete waste of time and effort! God knows why you would want to to pay 44.99 for it. Luckily I got it with the console. I advise you not to get this even if you love sonic, it will only dull your memories of him.
There are loads of reasons why it is so rubbish, and I could go on forever telling you but I'll tell you some of the main reasons. The gameplay is atrocious and will no doubt give you a headache within minutes. SEGA have now got you doing endless chores for the townsfolk before you can go into a proper level. the townsfolk give you your stupid task to do and after listening to them mumble for hours on end you then have to wait for it to load for further time. The chores are petty and even the fans won't get anything out of it.
As soon as you've done enough tasks for the townsfolk you then go on to a proper level which isn't even credible so your wasting your time doing tasks for people in the first place. The levels are difficult and really frustrating. Some sections of the level may require sonic to go at top speed to the objective. This is beyond all proposterous and laughable however when your playing it, you'll be far from laughing...
I've spent paragraphs complaing about this piece of junk so perhaps I should move on to something that's just below credible. You might just wring the fun out of multiplayer if you have a mate that likes it and something that is credible is the graphics. Most areas are dull, however some have a good feel to the game itself. Overall a big disappointment and I won't consider purchasing anything that SEGA have created. Personally I would highly reccomend you NOT to buy this as you'll be wasting your time and playing will make you explode.
Bad!!! Bad!!! Bad!!! April 14, 2008 Philip Keeling (liverpool, mersyside uk) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this game is very repetitive and frustrating.
at the beginning this game seems fun and colorful, but quickly turns
dull and boring.
although this game is portrait to be great it lacks effort.
the new silver character at first is also great
but all he can do is fly 2cm and and lift up 2 cars and miss the enemy.
the towns are also boring and are tiny.
although this is what many sonic fans like about the games i find myself wanting to get a refund
