Product Description
The Story Unfolds Set in a futuristic, yet feudal Japan, this story follows a samurai named Afro after his hair. Afro has set out to try and avenge his father's murder by a man named Justice. Justice murdered Afro's father to claim the 'Number One' headband, giving himself the chance to rule the world with powers akin to a god. The only one allowed to challenge Number One is the person with the 'Number Two' headband, but unfortunately for Afro, the current owner of the headband, anybody and everybody can, and does, challenge Number Two. But never fear, as this new title includes brand new material and background for fans of the series and newcomers alike to enjoy. Loads of Stylized Action Afro Samurai brings gamers a balanced experienced, with stylistic combat and acrobatic platforming combined with the ability to dynamically slice and dismember enemies in unending ways. While gamers can hack and slash their way through many foes by combining heavy and light attacks with just two buttons, accomplished players will master moves like the Deep Throat Killer, where they pierce their opponent's neck and rip everything loose in a crimson splash. Players will also need to learn the Focus maneuver with its bullet-time effect. This allows the user to slow down time and designate a specific strike zone, which with the right timing and skill can allow Afro to cleave an enemy in two or slice a limb completely off. And since characters are not pre-rendered you don't just get a canned scene when you cut through your enemy, giving you endless ways and means to cut your enemies down to size. This ethos is applied game-wide, as Afro is allowed to interact with anything and everything in his environment to help him on his journey. Star-Studded Supporting Cast Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as both Afro and Ninja in the game, and the same striking art style

| Customer Reviews: A faithful adaption September 6, 2009 Stevie G (Manchester, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Afro Samurai is a tale of retribution. As a young boy, Afro witnesses his father's murder at the hands of Justice, who happens to be the #1 fighter in the world. Consumed by revenge, Afro vows to earn the #2 headband needed to challenge the world's best fighter. However, many covet this headband for themselves. The fusion of traditional Japanese culture and hip hop created a brutally fresh experience, and the game retains much of what made the anime unique. However, it isn't without problems.
The cel shaded graphics are a suitable match to the shows visual style. Characters are immediately recognisable, with some nice texturing bringing them closer to the source material. Generally, the plot feels like deleted scenes from the original quest, but standout moments, like the freefall battle sequence, are beautifully recreated. New characters feature, and certain plot gaps are filled in, as well as flashes to Afros childhood. Yet it can feel disjointed, switching locations without much explanation. In addition, the finer points of the story will be lost on newcomers. Music is supervised by Wu Tangs RZA, and remains of a high standard. Afro & his chatty 'sidekick' Ninja Ninja are still brilliantly voiced by Samuel L Jackson, lending the game humour and attitude. To date, it's possibly the best use of voice acting in videogames.
Nudity, violence, and sexual content are everywhere, battles against topless female ninjas in particular. Combat is highly stylised, visceral and furious, although it treads closely to generic hack and slashers. Afro Samurai has always been bloodthirsty, and the game piles on the gore, including slow motion dismemberments. Strong attacks build up focus moves, where environmental colours wash away, and make decapitations an even grislier sight. Wide sweeping, focus attacks decimate everything on screen, which superbly conveys the raw power of Afro Samurai.
Level design is fairly standard. However, the environments feel surprisingly empty, and barring a few simplistic puzzles, and hidden items, are completely void of interaction. Clumsy platform sections only have a detrimental effect on gameplay. There's a level up system, which doesent seem to do anything. Elsewhere, there are some minor but noticeable frame rate drops, especially during split screen moments. Later bosses are full of cheap moves, and threaten to ruin the experience (Brother No.6!). Animation is jittery in places. The camera is the games biggest problem, forcing the use of inverted controls, and with a complete lack of customisation.
An entertaining and thoroughly gory affair, Afro Samurai is a successful videogame adaptation. Yet newcomers won't find anything to match the depth or sophistication of Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden. Probably one for the fans.
Incredibly good voice acting, amazing sound track! May 2, 2009 Thomas Hagen (Pinneberg) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Graphics: beautyful cell shading look, allmost consistant framerate, no tearing.
Sound: The game has one of the best voice actings ever! The voice acting of Samuel L. Jackson alone makes the game worth playing. The soundtrack is excellent and allways accompanies the action properly without being penetrant.
Story: entertaining from the beginning to the end!
Gameplay: (Button mashing!) The game is so much fun, but: sometimes I've had the feeling, the game let me alone, e.g. you have to use a certain move, to beat an opponent that you really never had to use before in the game, and some bosses are frustrating. Therefore only 4 stars in the overall rating.
If you like the genre, buy this game! you won't regret
Excuse any bad language, I'm not a native speaker.
excellent if you like hack and slash March 29, 2009 A. M. Murray (uk) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Graphics very good though cartoon like. Excellent sound and music. Camera a little annoying could be better. Gameplay excellent very straightforward perhaps some people would like a greater depth but still excellent. Gore level huge, body parts everywhere.
Overall having only played the first few levels this is a fab game if you like swordplay and a japanese style. Yes its a button basher but it is what it says it is. It will tide you over till ninja gaiden sigma two.
some good stuff February 22, 2009 T. Fink (Schwabach) 1 out of 16 found this review helpful
just played the demo. it's a really nasty gory and fun game. only the enemies who look like someone painted one or two and duplicated them a thousend times, bored me after a while.
